When, after a decent slaughter, the number of hungry mouths exceeds the usual edible parts of their enemies, Orcs like to expand their menu with less usual body parts. On top of that, elven brain is considered a delicacy.

Baked Elven Brain
Course: Main Course
Cuisine: Orcish
Servings: 6 brains
Author: Jabbado
Ingredients
Für den Teig
  • 1 leek
  • 1 bunch scallions
  • 1 onion
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 800 g minced meat
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tbsp mustard
  • 1 tsp thyme dried
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 1 tsp pepper ground
  • 1/2 tsp cumin
  • 2 tbsp potato starch
Für die Sauce
  • 20 g butter
  • 20 g flour
  • 200 ml milk
  • salt
  • pepper
Instructions
  1. Cut the leek in 2" long pieces, then cut those lengthwise at least 3 times to get thin strips.

  2. Cut the scallions into rings and dice the onions. Chop the garlic finely.

  3. Melt the butter in a pan and brown the vegetables in it for a couple of minutes.

  4. Mix the remaining ingredients for the brains in a bowl (be careful not to get burned on the hot vegetables from the last step).

  5. Divide the meat dough by 6 and form each piece into a rough brain shape to your liking.

  6. Bake in the oven at 180°C (convection) for 45 minutes.

  7. In the meantime melt the remaining butter in a pot and stir in the flour.

  8. Then add the milk and keep stirring vigurously while heating the sauce up until it thickens.

  9. Take it off the stove and add salt and pepper to taste.

  10. After half the baking time, use a brush or the back of a spoon to spread the sauce over the brains. Repeat that every 5-10 minutes.

Recipe Notes

Rice goes well with these brains.

If you want additional sauces, they should be red (and yes, ketchup works).

And for more brainpower add 100 g cheese (your choice), dice it and add it to the dough.

Instead of trying to form actual brain shapes for these meat loafs, you can just go with a ball or a generic misshapen lump. As a matter of fact, getting detailed brains are tricky to make because the meat mixture will lose a lot of detail as it sets while baking.

The easiest way to get a good looking elven brain is to form a sphere, then squash it a bit and make one end slightly more pointx. Of course you can experiment from one brain to the next. After all, there is no reason for every elven brain to look alike.

Where can I get Elven Brain?

Of course, Elven Brain is easiest to find at the notorious victory celebrations of the less settled Orc clans, and only when they are currently taking up their own personal insecurities with Elves.

The practice of baking brains is more widespread, though, at least if you are willing to travel to places where mortals are inherently part of the menu. You can find similarly prepared brain in many cosmic metropolises. And if you visit the Abyss or the Nine Hells, it is common practice to prepare it fresh and at the table.

And now?

If you got an appetite for more Orc cuisine you should check out the other Orc recipes. If you are looking more for a bit of civilisation, you might find that in the Drawven cuisine – so long as you do not mind rats.

I would love to hear from you! Where was your group when you served them Elven Brains? Did you modify the recipe to suit your needs and taste? Let me know!
